Good old club rallying does take some beating, even in miserable rain in November. It does make for some spectacular pictures what with the vibrant colours and the water splashes though, so worth it.
The trusty Escort is a staple of the British Club rally scene, with a light RWD chassis and reliable power.
The NOISE! of this RX7 was amazing, and coupled with the huge flames out of the exhaust on the overrun was pretty epic.
I was joking about the Escort being a staple rally car. I counted atleast 15 in a field of around 60.
For a little FWD Fiesta this was a seriously quick car, running towards the front of the field.
Very sideways FWD Peugeot, yep its quite slippy out there.
The series is not just for older cars, with this brand new Fiesta R2 (I think) running well.
Followed by one of the oldest cars in the field, a Ford Anglia from the 1960s.
Another very sideways FWD, this time a Vauxhall Nova.
Yeah, so it was raining quite hard.
The final couple of stages are run in the dark, hence this mega light bar.
Something a little different. #VTEC kicked in YO!
I think this is an ex works S1600 Micra, but I might be wrong.
Pretty sizeable puddle was no obstacle to this bavarian beast, the one and only E30 on the rally.
After the pack of 2 wheel drive cars had done their best to destroy the stage, the 4WD boys had a go.
One of the newest cars in the field (and the eventual 4wd winner) this R5 spec Fiesta showed what the extra development of a new car has resulted in, as it flew through the stages, visibly faster than its slightly older competition.
Bowler have slightly customised a fleet of Land Rover defender 90s which are running this year.
Code Brown was about to occur, as this Landy slightly oversteered towards the marshalls, and edge of the narrow bridge.

Man they look good. British engineering at it’s best (old Escorts, M-Sport Fiestas and Bowler Landies).

We do enjoy playing in the mud as children, so I guess its only natural our cars look right there haha.

Those Defenders are a sight to behold!

I’m Cumbrian so I grew up cold, wet and muddy.

I’ve always wanted to go as the tempest is fairly local. But never have. Maybe next year.

So... AWD Fiesta, RWD Fiesta, or nah?

Ha see now I am just imagining Banes speech from Batman, “ You merely adopted the mud, I was born in it, molded by it.”

Its worth keeping your eyes out for, its normally around this time each year, and pretty good day out when its not absolutely pissing down with rain.

They really go for it too, for such a top heavy car they sure can be thrown around in the corners.

AWD built to R5 specifications so intended to be just below the current spec of WRC cars.

Actually no, I’m asking what hi-po street legal Fiesta would you like: AWD Fiesta, RWD Fiesta, or the regular ST.

Lol. We had a massive drought nearly 20 years ago. For us Cumbrians, we didn’t know it was possible for it not to rain for so long. Two weeks in everyone was doing rain dances. It just wasn’t possible. ;)
![]() 11/08/2015 at 04:23 |

Ooo, well then clearly the full house R5 spec car. I mean having to wear ear defenders whenever your driving might get slightly tiresome, but to find yourself next to a forest track and think ‘I could make this’ would be bloody good fun.

Fantastic stuff. Isn’t this considered classic British rally weather? :)
![]() 11/08/2015 at 13:55 |

Pretty much. If you leave a rally in the UK and you aren’t soaked through to the skin then you’ve basically been robbed.

Interesting that you don’t have any 90s Subarus. Are there more options in Europe, or are they just not competitive in 4WD classes?

Is that the Mark 1 Impreza?
There were a few running but seems to be the newer ones are more popular.
![]() 11/18/2015 at 08:29 |

Yeah, Rally America is infested with them. Newer ones too, but Subarus pretty much rule the stages here.

You know that feeling right after you finish, and the video is still playing, and you’re just filled with regret and shame?
Yeah...

I have an Impreza and have desparately wanted a late 70s Escort for as long as I can remember. They’d be quite the pair and fairly inexpensive to run. Wrong continent for the Escort though :(

no Saabs?

Amazing photos, nice work!
This man... This man looks like he lives in the wood, and just came to see what all the commotion was about.

HA! I mean, no, I have literally no idea what you could possibly mean.
*looks shiftily from side to side*

None at all. Rally Saabs aren’t that common in the UK. Come to think of it, Saabs full stop are a pretty unusual sight now too.

An old RX-7! I love those cars. Thanks for these pics. You did a great job!

They often rule here too (England) and are super popular on the rally stages.
There’s a Impreza in the above pic anyway from 1999.
![]() 11/20/2015 at 15:46 |

Escorts are waaaaay too expensive nowadays so the Impreza is the Impreza of British rallying.
![]() 11/20/2015 at 17:13 |

in many club rallies that I go to the Impreza’s easily outnumber the escorts
